"Black Durio U", 2023
Andrii Kyrychenko
This vase is the result of a technique developed by the artist. Works from this series are exhibited in museums in China and South Korea.
The “Durio” series is one of the first where the artist uses the potter’s wheel to form organic-looking objects. Working on a potter's wheel implies certain limits in the possible renderings. Clay, however, has particularities that allow the artist to give it a unique appearance. In this series, Andrii Kyrychenko plays the role of intermediary between the wheel and the material and observes their interactions.
The durio is a plant whose fruits are formed by numerous small cones. Andrii Kyrychenko reproduces the shape of these fruits on his potter's wheel.
“It seems that our world is only made up of reinterpretations of another world.”
